Supporting Bridget Mac (Werkstatt) - New Release Sekt (Sparkling Riesling)

letuffeau.com (Link) Our 20%-off last bottle sale continue (Link) s. Warning: here be bargains! (Link) — Werkstatt Bridget Mac “Bridget Mac, known through her own label: Werkstatt, is a brilliant winemaker. A few vintages have already confirmed her commitment to a distinctly local and slightly punky take on classic Germanic and Alsatian varietals: Riesling, Gewurztraminer, and Spatburgunder (Pinot Noir). I see, through her Werktreue approach to all aspects of winemaking, a commitment to ‘fine wine for the people’. This commitment is most manifestly delivered on in her sumptuous Gewurztraminer and brilliant newly released Sekt. See below. Unfortunately, a recent workplace accident caused the loss of 2000L of her soon to be bottled 2025 Pinot Noir. (Link) 600L remain. Bridget was not even in her winery at the time. This is an immense loss. It is a loss her superb rendition of the 2025 vineyard and the fruit she and her husband picked and transported back to the winery from Mount Gambier in a pre-dawn drive; of her craft, which as an artisan with creative practice aside is of great personal affect; and of her livelihood. We, at Le Tuffeau, and you, our readers, can do our small part to assist with the above. First, when a hoped for small release of the 2025 Pinot Noir comes around, perhaps in the spirit of a versteigerung bottling in Germany, we will secure a few bottles for a lucky set of you readers. Secondly, I further promote her presently released wines which are looking marvellous having settled into bottle several months after release. The Riesling and Gewurztraminer are brilliant summer drinking, the latter easily the finest rendition of the varietal in Australia. Bridget has also brought forward the disgorgement of her 2024 ‘Sekt’, a sparkling Riesling that nods to its Germanic influences. One of the more unique, and deliciously refreshing, sparklings in the country, I imagine this will be perfectly suited to first drinks on Christmas Day, or refresh the parched palate on January 1st, 2026. I hope you can join me in supporting our friend.” — David — ~ please note : discounts are automatically applied at the digital check-out! ~ — Newly Released I Werkstatt 2024 Riesling 'Sekt' (Shelf Price: $65.00) Offer: $55.00 5m on gross lees in old French puncheons Disg. 12/2025 with 15m on fine lees, 3.5g/L dosage 11% alcohol “An aperitif wine through and through, this Sparkling Riesling 'Sekt' from Bridget Mac opens with spicy aromas of peppercorn tree, lime jellies and crushed Makrut Lime leaves, and pomelo with attendant brown spices. Brisk coastal limestone and tide-pool, salt-swept, appears with aeration along with toasty bran notes. The palate opens with charming light frothiness, sweeping the taster along with a wave that turns into a surging tidal line of acidity. Crushed green apple, pink grapefruit, spicy fresh green pepper, lime flesh, brine, crushed shells … and small relief from this distinctly Gambier barrage with a touch of buttered and toasted brioche. Finishes with head-spinning freshness and minerality, chalk-streaked phenolics, and a dazzlingly brilliant acidity. Goldkapsell Sekt.” — David & “Really makes you sweat. Painfully intense refreshment … another glass, please.” — Will Order here (Link) C (Link) urrent Releases II Werkstatt 2025 Riesling Petillant Naturel (Shelf Price: $45.00) Offer: $37.00 “A charming pet-nat, however unqualified I feel to write on the matter! Bone dry, zesty; this transcends simple easy drinking associated with the style. A delightful cloudy straw, this abounds in tart tropical fruits, hints of fresh grated ginger, citrus flower, and smashed slate tiles. The palate has some terracotta nuance along with a slight 'burr' texturally. Bone dry on the sneaky finish. Glou-glou done fine service.” — David Order here (Link) III Werkstatt 2025 Mount Gambier Riesling (Shelf Price: $45.00) Offer: $37.00 “A bright straw-yellow with faint green highlights, the Werkstatt 2025 Mount Gambier Riesling coheres in the glass with air. There is a refracted quality to the aromatics here, the beholder is presented with lime leaf, crushed chalk, meadow flowers, candied peel. All these elements appear and recede as if coming from different olfactory directions. Time focuses these elements to notes of lemon icing (slight confiture) and pastry, smashed nectarine together with hints of yellow-green apples, gunsmoke and broken shells, brine and capers, and a dash of white pepper. This is a fulsome Riesling with a sensation of 'flattening' towards the finish; the wine broadens along a limestone shelf flecked with sea spray and bracing acid-led vibrancy. It is initially tight and angular, something of early Klee here; pungent accenting in the form of powerful lime peel and flesh, rocky minerals. The mid-palate has yellow apple, exotic spices derived from lime characters, and ripe nectarine which bring a textural element as if sliced with a slightly pulping edge from a blunt knife. The finish has faint sucrosity alongside chalk and shells. Every subsequent revisit to this wine brings into conflict and resolve: rock sugar and black salt; faint earthiness. Piquancy, hinting at candied peppercorns and potentially Sichuan pepper, abounds on the close. Very fine.” — David & “Made in a Kabinett style; the juice is slowly fermented in stainless steel; two months on gross lees and two months on fine lees; 13.5g/l in the final wine. A bite of loquat, pineapple skin and lemonade fruit. There is apple leaf and sparks of lime. The palate is bedazzled with salinity and pick-me-up freshness. Fruit sweetness is well worked into the body of the wine. It's hard to imagine a white wine that is more approachable, with acidity that rolls throughout the palate in cascading waves. This is so tastefully curated, shining a light on the suitability of riesling in Mount Gambier. A wine of total elation for breakfast, lunch, pre-dinner and throughout.” 95pts — Shanteh Wale, James Halliday’s Wine Companion Order here (Link) IV Werkstatt 2025 Whitfield Gewurztraminer (Shelf Price: $49.00) Offer: $42.00 “The Werkstatt 2025 Whitfield Gewuztraminer is a soft straw in the glass with the faintest suggestion of green. Maybe it is the varietal leading me astray but I detect a very faint viscosity difference between this and the 2025 Riesling. We are immediately in action with wonderful aromatic interplay: tropicality woven together with perfume oils with spicy exoticism. The former, with hints of lychee; then bitter-lush white-pink rose petals; then spiciness with hints of Kampot peppercorns. Air brings added dimension: apricot blossom followed by the fruit born from the same, blackcurrant leaf tincture, and alluringly elusive notions white strawberry. The palate has excellent, almost crystalline structure; brilliantly edging acidity kicking in late early-palate alongside minerality - the wine then courses across to a longer finish that starts to clamp down with pleasing bitterness. The fruit runs the full spectrum of apricot ripeness, from green and tart ‘jam fruit’ to the super-ripe deep yellow-orange globes of autumn. White tending faintly pink strawberry follows, with a distinct 'sliced' quality; around this runs tracery of yellow Turkish Delight. I should single out the excellent phenolic qualities here. I stress 'qualities' as there is an intriguing sensation that blurs softness into hardness. Excellent.” — David & “Gewurz is super well suited to the high alpine, super cool Darling Estate vineyard at Whitlands, which supplied the grapes for this wine. It's fine boned and delicately delivered, delightfully so, with a spiciness that jumps out of the glass. Aromas of musky florals, lychee, rose petal, tangerine and candied ginger. Builds on the palate and just keeps on going, replete in apple, citrus, high aromatics, spring florals and that gorgeous, lasting spiciness. Essentially off-dry in style, matched to bright acidity.” 95pts & a Top 100 Wine of 2025 — Jeni Port, James Halliday’s Wine Companion Order here (Link) V Werkstatt 2024 Mount Gambier Pinot Noir (Shelf Price: $59.00) Offer: $48.00 “After spending our first few months sledging Australian Pinot Noir (with some notable exceptions) I feel I must walk back a few of my criticisms in the face of this eminently drinkable wine. Red and black cherry abounds with full support from rubbed sage; alongside are blood orange, mineral nuances (slight ore and shell hints), and some fragrant raspberry and rose petals. The palate is round, with integrated acidity and minerality. Raspberries and cherries in a melange, a hint of cherry pit, tarragon, and warm basalt rocks. Refreshingly limestone on the finish with the length bringing orange zest and shucked oyster shell tincture on the concentrated close.” — David Order here (Link) — If you would like any of the above, would like to come by for a private appointment, or just have some questions — please let us know.
