Textbook Albarino: Palacio de Fefinanes

letuffeau.com (Link) ~ “I can feel the chill from the corridors of the El Escorial (even on a hot day) as a take I sip ... or maybe a sea breeze from the Galatian coast carrying the aroma of freshly grilled sardines. The latter, I hope.” ~ David … Bodegas Palacio de Fefinanes Rias Baixas, Galicia — “The sheer quantity of R. Lopez de Heredia Blanca consumed of late at Le Tuffeau is clear manifestation of a recent obsession with the white wines of Iberia. By myself, and by our customers. Certainly this time of year, with weekly mounting humidity leading to sudden downpours before hot sun again, opens the door to a wealth of different drinking. Perhaps it is also a desire to leave behind more accustomed territory: Nahe Rieslings and Chablis (excellent, of course) but ... we all want something more, something exciting. A wine with texture and weight, salinity and piquancy … but with drive and difference. Especially, as below, if such a wine comes in a gorgeously labelled old-school bottle with baroque formatting and eccentric Spanish font. Warmly reccomended.” — David — ~ please note : discounts are automatically applied at the digital check-out! ~ — Palacio de Fefinanes 2023 Rias Baixas Blanco 'Albarino de Fefinanes' (Shelf Price: $85.00) Offer: $75.00 6-pack : $408.00 ($68/bottle) “Brilliant yellow-gold in the glass, this powerful 2023 Albarino from Palacio de Fefinanes initially treads a fine line between fresh and pithy aromas of melon and rind thereof, lemon pith, and tart yellow nectarine; and more salty and savoury flavours: preserved lemon, green pistachio, chalk dust and seaspray, and lightly toasted oats. The wine gains complexity but also finesse with air: notions of coriander seed, fresh parsley, and mint intermingle alongside a drizzle of honey on the fruits previously described; the melon-flavours strongly evoking cantaloupe. The palate is full yet remains largely high-toned/in the upper-regions of the mouth until the wines denouement when it gradually wends downwards. The palate: wow. Properly mouth-watering acidity and salinity present here, almost assaultive in refreshment. Glossy finish. Yellow cooking apple, bran and spices from lees-work, then tending salty and complex with preserved citrus rind, bitter lemon; a dash of quinine and parsley on finish as taut phenolics and slight fruit tannin makes its present felt. Quite special. Perfect drinking during today’s more tropical weather.” — David Order here (Link) — Le Tuffeau Lucky Dip (Shelf Price: $775.00 - approx. $65/bottle) Offer: $620.00 - approx. $52.00/bottle We have 1 case of mixed wines; an ample selection of favourite whites, rose, orange, and reds. 20%-off.
