Domaine du Bel Air 2023 Bourgeuil ‘Jour de Soif’

“Supple and fresh, this 2023 Cabernet Franc from Bourgeuil bursts with aromas of sliced red plums mingling with crushed blueberries, freshly picked thyme, and hints of orange peel. There are faint complexifying notions of sweet tobacco leaf, loamy soil, and coal dust … But don’t let these subtleties get in the way of a good-time vibe. The palate is fresh, uncluttered, and juicy. Faint tannins make themselves briefly felt on the close, but this wine is more about bright acidity and phenolic grip. Plump redcurrants and blueberries abound, hints of bay and anise, and a pleasingly mineral and citrus inflected finish. I note that towards the close, the fruit spectrum darkens and gains weight.
What’s left of the glass in my hand is at 16 degrees, and is rapidly disappearing before it has a chance to warm up. What more could you want from a Spring red with a spring in its step.”
