Alessandro Stefani 2023 Vintage Launch at Le Tuffeau

Alessandro Stefani 2023 New Vintage Launch — Thursday 10th July, 2025 4:00pm - late — Alessandro and I have been plotting this event for some time. It has been difficult to keep it under wraps; I am sure small whispers have been getting around. Needless to say I am very excited. Alessandro is not only one of the most fastidious young winemakers in the country, he is a good friend. I have walked his vineyard a number of times, examined the 2023 wines from barrel and tank repeatedly, and assisted him as much as I am able. Some new wines are appearing in the line-up this year: a Trebbiano and Pinot Blanc blend ‘Sete’ and a Cabernet Sauvignon ‘Supera’. The latter has me particularly excited; the Yarra Valley producers exceptional cold-vintage Cabernet, and this wine has looked beautiful from barrel numerous times. It has a fantastic label, as well, that channels the 1980s Super Tuscan wines … Looking forward to seeing you all on the late afternoon, early evening of Thursday, July 10th! — David — Free Tasting of New Release Wines Alessandro Stefani 2023 Yarra Valley Trebbiano - Pinot Blanc ‘Sete’ — 2023 Yarra Valley Sangiovese ‘La Vignola’ 2023 Yarra Valley Pinot Noir ‘La Veduta’ 2023 Yarra Valley Sangiovese ‘Boccolo’ 2023 Yarra Valley Cabernet Sauvignon ‘Supera’ — also — 2022 Wines Still Available at 15%-off! — I (Link) Alessandro Stefani 2022 Yarra Valley Sangiovese ‘La Vignola’ (Shelf Price: $39.00) Offer: $33.00 "Mid-2024 a friend of mine tipped me off that a young, articulate, and German-trained Australian-Italian (!!) winemaker was making the rounds with some newly released Yarra Valley wines. I caught up with Alessandro having heard breathless praise from my colleague and started a strong friendship from minute one. His wines are simply spectacular and he makes some of the very best monovarietal Sangiovese and Cabernet Franc in the country. All this from his first vintage. The 'La Vignola' is YV Sangiovese made from a lighter-skin, lower tannin, later-ripening clone originally sourced from Alessandro's great-aunt's garden. The 'La Vignola' pours a strong, transparent ruby and offers clearly delineated aromas of rose, red fruits, and bresaola. As with all his wines, further time in the glass brings out deeper-pitched fruit and mineral touches as well as some herbal notes. A delicate and pretty wine, medium to lighter bodied with fine acidity and elegant framing tannins. Morello cherry, candied rose petal, and notes of blood orange on the close. This is one of the finest examples of Sangiovese in the country, perhaps second only to Alessandro's more premium 'Boccolo' cuvee." — David Order here (Link) I (Link) I Alessandro Stefani 2022 Yarra Valley Pinot Noir ‘La Veduta’ (Link) (Shelf Price: $59.00) Offer: $51.00 "Cherries, peonies, and autumnal sous bois waft alluring from the glass. By way of framing there are distinctly sensual touches of bergamot, black Yunnan tea, potting soil, and exotic spices. The palate, while certainly possessing the elusive rondeur I search for in Burgundy and often fail to see in Antipodean wines, is also sapid and alert with fine tannins on the long, mineral and orange peel inflected close. Further cherries, floral touches, a hint of smoky fermented tea; the palate feels less like these mingle but present in array with a dash of white pepper on the finish. Very fine." — David Order here (Link) I (Link) II Alessandro Stefani 2022 Yarra Valley Cabernet Franc ‘Franc’ (Shelf Price: $65.00) Offer: $55.00 "This is personal favourite of mine, and not just because I am close friends with Alessandro. The story goes: as it was fermenting the cellar was filled with aromas of blueberry pie: the autolytic elements from ferment mingling with the perfectly ripe 'cab-franc' fruit. Supremely perfumed yet elegant nose, nothing vegetal or herbal here: small red and blue fruits mingling, complexity from spice box, maduro cigar leaf, and a hint of blood orange zest. The palate is medium bodied with fine tannins, saline and mouth-watering on the long, chalky finish. Further blue fruits with some crushed loganberry and a dab of preserve, together with loam and hints of cigar-box. Closer to Saint-Emilion than the Loire, with Cheval Blanc in sight over La Dominique." — David Order here (Link) nb. there will be no ‘Franc’ released for the 2023 vintage … ! We look forward to seeing you there!
