Yering Farm 2021 Yarra Valley Pinot Noir 'One by One'

"Pouring a beautifully deep yet pellucid ruby, tending garnet, this 2021 Pinot Noir 'One by One' from Yering Farm unfurls in the glass with aromas of sweet cherry, dried orange peel, tarragon, dark-red rose petals, and sous bois. There are charmingly elusive notes of tobacco, rosehip, and bergamot, together with clementine jelly, that skirt around the edges of olfactory perception. The aromatic profile carries a sense of depth without weight as well as airs of precision, of a classicism not seen in many Australian Pinot Noirs. 

After an initial aromatic blossoming, this wine took on air in its stride and unfurled its depths, and proceeded to close down: an excellent sign. 

The palate is satiny and enveloping with a long tannic spine that runs towards a slightly broader close. No fanning out here; though the finish though has immense promise. Black cherry and pit of same, chocolate, rosehip and black tea, sweet orange with bitter pith; bay and mineral notions. Spices play their supporting role. What really stands out here is the amplitude and textural layering; even if everything feels youthfully closed, wrapped in immense swathes of tannin. A wine of huge palate presence and structure without ever feeling forced, nor the fruit cooked or burnt. Exceptional.
