"A long-time favourite 'Village' level Riesling offering from about as far west in Rheinhessen as you can go before you move into Nahe region. Daniel Wagner is the king out here, with some of the finest Rieslings in German grown amidst undulating, windswept hills hiding deep mineral deposits rich in porphyritic/igneous mineral rock. The cooler 2021 vintage has resulted in a very pure and intense Riesling - crushed stones and underripe pineapple couple with herbal, cooling touches on the nose. The palate is rich with a great line of acidity - again, 'stony' is the byword here with dense flavours of tart tropical fruits and citrus piths underscored by the quartzine minerality. The finish is very dry and piquant with some riesling tannin adding to the mercurial mouthfeel. This will be delicious at any point over the next decade-and-a-half, but is so damn delicious now." - David
