Traviarti 2023 Beechworth Nebbiolo

"Quite possibly the best Nebbiolo yet produced in Australia; the wet and cool vintage conditions working in the favour of this nebulous grape. Dried rose and orange peel, crushed stone, camphor, and hints of truffle waft alluring from the glass. Time is enormously kind, with aeration bringing forth freshness and charm (that magical dried to fresh act that Italian wines and varietals achieve with aplomb): red cherries and cranberry, roses, and hints of new leather. The palate has firm tannins; plenty of mineral heft here. Red cherry and dried peels mingle with complex, varietal spice notes (all the oak for elevage is very old, neutral) of clove, camphor, anis; very long finish. Excellent. Chapeau, Simon." - David
