Sorrenberg 2025 Beechworth Gamay

"The 2025 Gamay from the Morey family at Sorrenberg bursts from the glass with warm vintage character, somehow pledging allegiance to both Beechworth and Beaujolais in the same breath. Aromas of ripe plum, cherry compote, game, and violets rush from the glass all underscored by complexifying notions of dried grass, wet granite, and bay. The palate is lush and expansive, with generous fruit given lift by bright acidity, a fine line of tannin, and chalky phenolics. Red and black cherries, baked forest fruits, blood orange, thyme all race across the palate. The finish has repeating notes of dark plum and baking spices. Fine!  And particularly dark fruited and rich in 2025." — David
