Sailor Seeks Horse 2023 Huon Valley Pinot Noir 'Dijon Clones'

"Tom and Gilli are always doing something different, always trying to vary the wines produced so there is not just 'standard Pinot, premium Pinot, etc. etc.' For the 2023 vintage the Dijon Clones (114 & 115) were blended to make this wine. It offers a very real counterpoint to the 'standard' Pinot.

A slightly more garnet tinged wine in the glass, the nose offers the first lines of difference: delicate, pretty, and high-toned with white/wild strawberry, fresh cedar (sap), and bright mineral tones. The fruit here conversely feels deeper and with greater complexity. Very fine sandy tannins and lithe structure. Further bay laurel but with rhubarb tartness, together with crushed raspberry, some black cherry in reserve with a delicate almost nervous fanning out on the finish. This will relax beautifully with a few years in bottle. The finish, very long, has come back mid-note and presents a lovely balsam refrain. Elegance, for Australia, personified." - David
