Sailor Seeks Horse 2023 Huon Valley Pinot Noir

"Those of you that know me know that I am not a huge fan of Australian Pinot Noir. I am always however happy to be surprised and the Sailor Seeks Horse Pinots are a wonderful exception.

Pouring a beautiful garnet-ruby, pale but with some deeper intensity; slightly more ruby than it's solely Dijon counterpart. Unwinds in the glass with complex, smoky aromas: savoury Virginian tobacco, bay leaves, white pepper all dance with orange pith, small red fruits (and some plum skins); there is wet rock minerality behind, adding petrichoral complexity. The palate is brooding with excellent crisp acidity. Cranberry, raspberry, and some softer strawberry notes mingle with granitic rock, earth, and further positive herbal qualities. An autumnal wine; complex and subtle and complete. Strict finish with a dash of white pepper, very linear for an Australian Pinot." - David
