Paitin 2021 Barbaresco 'Serraboella'

Tasting this wine was a truly sublime experience. Pours a brilliant translucent garnet, with ruby highlights. This wine is all all about the aromatics; an aromatically kaleidoscopic wine if there ever was one. Red fruits, including cranberry and cherry, together with iron ore immediately soar out of the glass. Following is layer upon layer of laurel, dried rose petals, cassia bark, fresh mint and myrtle, balsam notes, cedar shavings, and a wondrous beach-sand mineral character. At present the palate is on the straight-and-narrow, very linear and focussed, but time will bring breadth and expansiveness. Slightly tacky, fine-grained tannin adds presence and firmness without turning to rusticity. Speechless. Absolutely everything I want in a wine. - Nick
