"Slightly reduced straight out of the bottle, this 2022 Pinot Noir from Valentin Morel is darkly alluring with a melange of black cherries, sous bois, and brown spices wafting from the glass. Time unlocks details: the cherries reveal both hints of kirsch and morello jam, together with fresh forest fruits; rooting around the sous bois we find sliced button mushroom, pine needles, and under-bark; the brown spices pixelating to cocoa, cassia, and fennel seed. The palate is generous with slightly rustic tannins keeping the wine from tending wanton. Fleshy cherries and hints of plum, CWA fruitcake (including Glace cherries!), and baking spices. Classic Jurassic limestone notes on the close. Fine, as high praise." — David
