"

This is a wine of such understated elegance and precision that it belies its humble price-point. It is worth pointing out that the fruit derives from: 80% 1947 plantings in Champ Forey, Marsannay; 20% Chambolle-Musigny. Not a typo.

Nicely matching mineral touches to red fruits, the 2023 Bourgogne Rouge from Collotte wafts sensually from the glass with cherries, raspberries, deeper notes of violets; trimmed with broken rock and crushed shell nuances. The palate displays good depth and amplitude for its level but never looses its light touch of charm, with buoying acidity and minerality again focusing the palate. Further red cherries, some plums, hints of spice and blood orange; crushed rock again. There is a touch of sapidity at the close. There is a beautiful (and never stewed) confiture/coulis character to the red fruits here, perfectly balanced by a fine line of acidity. Perhaps a tad uncomplicated, but I’m not complaining when the wine is this moreish. Nor should you.

This wine easily brushes off Faiveley, Bellene, Bouchard, Louis Latour as one of the finest ‘affordable’ Bourgognes.  Simply delectable." - David
