"Domaine Collette is a recent emergence onto the Burgundy scene from a not-so-recent Burgundian family. Philippe Collate and his daughter Isabel have 17 hectares of northern Cote de Nuits vineyards, including a number of cru sites. Winemaking is traditional, i.e. 100% destemmed, followed by cold soak and 25% new oak. Barrels are sourced parallel to Armand Rousseau. The Marsannay 'Cuvee Vieille Vignes' is drawn from Philippe's 50+ year-old vines planted on the steep limestone of his home village. Quite structured for an entry-level offering, yet classically Marsannay in its ease for drinking. Dark fruits, such as plums and cassis, medicinal touches, and a hint of smoky dark chocolate on the nose leads to an elegant and open-knit palate; similar dark fruits, some earthy and herbal tincture touches, and a limestone finish, which is elegant for the level.
