Chateau des Laurets, a fairly large (45 hectare) holding in the Saint-Emilion satellite village of Puisseguin, is drawn primarily from 1946 plantings of Merlot as well as some newer Cabernet Franc vines. Opaque garnet-ruby in the glass with brilliant hints, the pristine nose blossoms with violets and a pure black fruit. The palate follows with blissfully-sweet cassis sitting above amaro-esque herbaceous touches from the Cab Franc, altogether framed by unobtrusive oak spice and moreish, firm-but-silken tannins that make this elegant wine all the more beguiling. Just effortless, the quality of fruit here, uncommon for such a large production, shines through unimpeded." - Nick
