Bunch Wines 2023 Coonawarra Nebbiolo 'Sebbiolo 3'

"Mid pale garnet, some ruby at the centre. Most intriguing aromatically, with a balance of fresh and higher toned elements with darker, slightly dried and earthen qualities.

Aeration foregrounds notions of salted watermelon, mandarin, cherry blossom, and wild mint which otherwise wreathe around the aromatic core of dried sweet cherry, almond paste and plum kernel, fruit cake spices, and loam and tobacco. Faint suggestions of sea spray, dry red earth made recently wet, and under bark/woodshed lurk on the periphery of perception. Most alluring. Silken and elegant on entry with powerful, slightly raw (bucolically so) tannins appearing about half-way through which couple with chalk and iron-stone minerality. Sweet red cherry, dried cranberry, red Chinese dates; then soft blood orange and dried marjoram; those brown spices return along with dried mandarin peel and the sweet toned flesh of same, almond, and a hint of salt. The finish recentres on the tongue with some lingering broader effect, inflected by repeating mineral, herbal, and dried citrus touches. What I find difficult to communicate in this note is the shape of the wine, how its tannins present; it feels unique in this sense and quite concordant with the Nebbiolos of Northern Piemonte beyond the Langhe.
