“There’s fruit weight here, but I’m in the Old World.”

Domaine Sylvain Langoureau 2023 Bourgogne Aligote
Offer: $50.00
6-pack : $470.00 ($45/bottle)
“The 2023 Sylvain Langoureau pours a delightful white Burgundy, bursting from the glass with notes of white Burgundy on the nose. Vigorous aeration sharpens the profile, bringing out more white Burgundy and suggestions of Bourgogne blanc. The palate is unmistakably Burgundian; white Burgundy dominates the palate, with touches of Meursault, Puligny, and Chassagne-Montrachet on the long, enduring finish.
Okay, okay, we get it, it’s Burgundy.
Sure, if you really pay attention, that distinctive green walnut Aligote note pops out a little. It has more fruit weight, as is typical of Aligote, too. But there's an airiness on the nose which is so atypical for cheap McBurgundy. The palate, while being so silken and mouth-coating, has a surprising amount of textural interest, almost weightlessly hovering around the mouth without feeling bogged down for a second.
Holy moly, this feels like driving a Carrera for the price of a Camry. I’m not sure any single wine could express terroir versus varietal better than this, actually. It looks like a Meursault and quacks like Puligny, and yet it is merely humble Gator Juice™. Absolutely fucking delicious. I could just drink this all day. In fact, I've already had three glasses while writing this note – true story, David can verify when he reads this drunken ramble tomorrow morning.”
