Sorrenberg & Juliard
Beechworth
—
“Barry & Jan Morey, and Sorrenberg, need no introduction. Allocation pack of Chardonnay and ‘SBS’ below.
For those of you committed to reading this email, without immediately jumping to the bottom of this email to snap up some Sorrenberg, we have got a revelation for you.
Juliard Wines is the project of Bernard and Julia Morey (hence Juliard); Bernard being Barry and Jan’s son. Son of Sorrenberg, if you will.
The fruit is from the exceptional Sorrenberg vineyards, which all and sundry above jointly tend along with a helping hand from Leila Davis (Foreign Friends). The winemaking is all Bernard and Julia who are, in all honesty and to their credit, slightly more involved winemakers than Barry. The result: remarkable wines. Would they be anything less?
At a recent event we hosted their Sparkling Rose, made from Sorrenberg Pinot Noir (back to 2012) and dosed with liqueur Shiraz (also Sorrenberg), was hotly in demand. Juliard is the next cult winery in Australia. Production: sorely limited.
If you stopped reading at the first sentence then shame on you. Those lucky few reading this can snap up Victoria’s finest Cotes-du-Rhone inspired blend.”

Juliard Wines 2024 Beechworth Grenache Shiraz Mourvedre 'GSM'
(Shelf Price: $69.00)
Offer: $59.00
“The Juliard 2023 GSM is immediately on the charm offensive, unwinding in the glass with delicate notions of crushed raspberries and cherries wreathed around an alluringly sensuous aromatic core of cured fat, wet granite, and cracked black pepper. What marks this wine out from other Australian GSM blends is the centrality of the savoury, mineral components. The palate is firmly at the lighter end of medium bodied with a light tannic frame asserting itself on the close. Cooked cherries with bay, orange peel, and some raspberry coulis (without ever taking on candied qualities), together with repeating notes of fenocchio salami and black pepper on the close.
This immediately evokes some of my favourite Cotes-du-Rhone wines, and is an insight into those keen to see what the Famille Morey can do with these varietals. Warmly recommended for its charms.”

Sorrenberg 2025 Beechworth Sauvignon Blanc Semillon
(Shelf Price: $70.00)
6-pack : $360.00 ($60/bottle)
~ orders by reply email, please ~
“The 2025 iteration of this vaunted quaffer feels more effortlessly charming than the last few vintages released. The warm, condensed growing season has blessed this wine with an abundance of fruit and an easy-going acid profile.
Slightly aromatically closed on first pour, aeration quickly brings crushed citrus leaves, tropical and nocturnal blossoms such as Jasmine, pomelo, and hints of spicy aromatic components that pixelate into ginger, cedar, and hints of vanilla pod. The palate is creamily textured yet never waxy, with cleansing salinity and a wave of acidity that refreshes; asparagus-like phenolics. Stunning fruit profile with components of pink grapefruit, pineapple, green and yellow apples, and lime leaf. Mineral touches, granite then chalk, and sea spray on the close.
Always a classic wine that by now feels appropriate in its Alpine Valley Burgundy Bottle.”
