“The below, dear Readers, was one of those wines I happened to try where the profile of the aromatics, the palate presence and texture, and shape of the wine … in short what was in the glass was far more striking that what lay behind the vines and winemaking. This should not, of course, be taken as being dismissive of the skill of Raphael Chopin in managing his vineyards, carefully vinifying his wine, and working tirelessly to promote Lantignie from Beaujolais-Villages to Cru.
I merely wish to state: this is one of those wines that you need in your glass! Warmly recommended.”

very old (t. v. v.) Gamay vines (planted 1905) on blue clay and schist; semi-carbonic maceration then elevaged in concrete tanks; Certified Organic from 2023 onwards but worked for years in a concordant approach without certification.
“A classic dark ruby in the glass, the 2023 Lantignie 'La Savoye' proffers an enticing aromatic profile of ripe strawberries and cherries trimmed by nuances of bitter dark chocolate, dried mandarin peel, and wet clay. A dash of cracked white pepper and bromide minerality add freshness and complexity. Classic. I should pause my usually proceeding note to stress first, this is a wine of perfume over mass, with an almost reticently alluring quality that draws the beholder in closer; and secondly, there is a wonderful aroma of rosehips which lend the whole bouquet a nostalgic, memorial tone as if one has inhaled these scents previously but is unsure of the circumstances. The palate is silken, elegantly composed with a faint line of tannin emerging subtly from the sateen folds in parallel with a gently refreshing trace of acidity. Light granite notes and tacky, clay-influenced phenolics emerge in whispered nocturne towards the close. As if in classic rondo form, cherry and wild strawberry notes
alternate, gaining complexity with time. Oregano, granite, and gastronomically bitter orange and mandarin pith notes appear, repeating on the delicate close. A wine of understatement and nuance. Most fine!”
