"Honestly I would say Puligny-Montrachet" - Australian Chardonnay by Marco Lubiana and Onannon has got Burgundy beat!

Onannon - Mornington Peninsula -- Marco Lubiana - Derwent Valley My views on Australian Pinot Noir (and rare exceptions) are by now common knowledge. Australian Chardonnay, however, goes from strength to strength in my humble estimation. A series of cooler vintages have blessed Victorian producers with fruit that has delivered focused, laser-like Chardonnays with mineral complexity, tension, and razor acidity. In short, what we chase in white Burgundy. Australian producers are increasingly in tune with their French counterparts and adopting a seriousness of purpose that is reflecting in increasingly uncompromising and elegant wines in the market. The Marco Lubiana wines are well known to us and some of our early clients. Charming wines with great activity on the palate, elegant yellow fruit flavours, and a brilliance to the acidity and saline mineral components present in the wine. A young winemaker doing right, and back in stock now! Onannon, despite achieving some mainstream success lately, has eluded us instore until it was brought in for a tasting by a legend in the industry (cheers, Mark! Eighteen months in new, light-toast French oak, together with time on lees with minimal stirring has given prime, cool vintage Mornington fruit the serious almost severe edge it needs. A wow wine, especially at the price. - David Mixed Chardonnays (3 of each of the below wines) Shelf Price: $456.00 Offer: $387.00 --- Onannon -- Onannon 2023 Mornington Peninsula Chardonnay 'Flinders' - Shelf Price: $77.00 Offer: $69.00 6-pack : $390.00 ($65/bottle) "Usually I'm not a fan of Mornington Chardonnay, but as soon as I had a whiff of this I let out a little "woah" under my breath. Gorgeous straw yellow colour with some greenish tinges in the light. Smells like it has had some serious royal oak treatment. 'Light toast 100% new oak.' Honestly I would say Puligny-Montrachet, and from a good producer, if I tasted blind. Fleshy ripe white fruits, white flowers and crushed rocks wrapped in delicious spicy oak. Powerfully aromatic. The palate is saturated with salty umami mixed with stone fruit and some lees derived nuttiness and texture. Seriously impressive, Burgundian-level chardonnay. I'm going to buy some for myself." -Will "A vivid yellow with green highlights, the Onannon '23 Flinders Chardonnays bursts from the glass with exuberant aromas of white orchard fruit and crushed citrus leaf wreathed in new oak and sea-spray. Aeration brings crushed shells, white florals, almond paste, and a touch of beeswax. So far, very Burgundian. The palate is incisive and precise, enveloping and satiny. Mingling on the palate are ripe pear and nectarine kernel, further broken shells together with iodine-like mineral components, and light praline. The finish is long with salted peach and white mushroom adding complexity to the close. Serious, and very fine. Highly recommended." - David --- Marco Lubiana -- Marco Lubiana 2023 Huon & Derwent Chardonnay - Shelf Price: $75.00 Offer: $68.00 6-pack : $384.00 ($64/bottle) "Reductive and mineral-driven aromas of flint, lemon confit, sea spray and tangerines. The palate is tightly wound with a creamy texture and precise acidity, giving notes of grapefruit pith, graphite, orange blossoms, honeysuckle and beeswax. Truly exceptional with a high level of sophistication. Excellent. Drink or hold." 96pts - Ned Goodwin, jamessuckling.com --- --- Autumn Leaves Reds 6-Pack (RRP: $345.00) Offer: $295.00 (approx. $49/bottle) - Joshua Cooper 2024 Central and Western Victoria Claret Salomon Estate 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon 'Braeside Vineyard' Alessandro Stefani 2022 Yarra Valley Cabernet Franc 'Franc' Chateau Blanzac 2018 Castillon Cotes de Bordeaux Chateau des Laurets 2018 Puisseguin-Saint-Emilion Chateau Senejac 2020 Haut Medoc --- If you would like any of the above, would like to come by for a private appointment, or just have some questions please let us know.
