Frankly, I am impressed by how just unreasonably alluring the aromatic profile is here. Fresh raspberries and cherries followed by plum blossom burst from the glass; then complexity in the form of classic Gamay notes of woven reed mats, orange rind, and crushed marjoram. There is a lovely touch of macerated cherry in the background along with a faint mineral edge. Overall, the aromatics feel very finely delineated, no mean feat while possessing ample depth and weight that never crosses over into being forced; "everything in its right place" - Thom Yorke. The palate is fresh and bright yet remains nicely silky; good acid picks everything up and sweeps along to a moreish conclusion. Cherry and raspberry coulis, orange zest, fresh laurel; very likeable. Crushed stones on the conclusion. Balanced and delicious. Fine!” — David Order here (Link) II Trapeze 2025 Yarra Valley Pinot Noir ‘Six Js Vineyard’ (Shelf Price: $54.00) Offer: $43.20 (20%-off) “The 2025 Yarra Valley Pinot Noir from Brian Conway's Trapeze label exudes Yarra classicism: sous bois and ceps act as an entr'acte to dark cherry fruit, oak bark, sweet soil tones, along with a discreet trimming of oak. Fruit is certainly playing second fiddle at this stage to savoury, bosque aromatics. The palate is utterly silken - few peers in the Yarra in this regard, and none at this price. No hollows and good intensity, luxurious in feel with very fine tannins. Dark cherry mingles with cocoa, plum, walnuts and that lovely not of ceps again. Hints of mint bring pleasing freshness to the finish.” — David Order here (Link) — Camille Melinand (Fleurie) III Camille Melinand 2022 Fleurie (Shelf Price: $69.00) Offer: $55.20 (20%-off) “Blessed with an concentration unseen in previous vintages, together with an overall riper profile, the 2022 Fleurie from Camille Melinand is redolent of sweet blood plums, black cherries, morello, and marjoram. Underscoring these dark fruited aromas is a faint line of spice and broken granite, with deep red Lincoln roses, cracked pepper, and sweet soil tones providing more elevated nuances. The palate is filled with juicy fruit, silken in feel; tannins make their presence felt along with a small rise of structuring acidity. Finishes bright and plump. Morello cherry jam, plum preserve, hints of cooked quince; spice and cocoa; and plump red fruit repeating on the finish. Simply delicious.” — David Order here (Link) Trapeze (Yarra Valley) IV Chateau de Villeneuve 2022 Saumur-Champigny (Shelf Price: $69.00) Offer: $55.20 (20%-off) “Simply delicious - lunch claret in the wrong bottle shape. Graphite/new pencil box; red fruits and wet limestone. Very drinkable.” — David Order here (Link) V Chateau de Villeneuve 2019 Saumur-Champigny ‘Le Grand Clos’ (Shelf Price: $125.00) Offer: $100.00 (20%-off) “Unwinds in the glass, seemingly supported by the limestone of the Tuffeau itself, with layers of sliced red and blue fruits, cigar humidor, underbrush, trimmed in hints of pencil lead and ceps. Revisiting with air there are delightfully fresh aromas of blood orange, mint, sage, and crushed red fruits. The palate is very silken, seamless; chalky in later mouthful with a delightfully moreish finish once again over pavers of Tuffeau. Crushed blue fruits, some red cherry and a touch of cranberry; light spices including clove. Fine!” — David Order here (Link) … Please join us for a drink soon. Reservations preferred.
