letuffeau.com (Link) ~ “I think we need to start assessing Bordeaux in the way we more typically do for other fine wine regions such as Burgundy …” ~ Inside Bordeaux — Jane Anson … Claret. Claret. Claret. — “Claret, please.” — David — ~ please note : discounts are automatically applied at the digital check-out! ~ — “It is becoming more essential than ever to stop the ‘one size fits all’ approach to Bordeaux … to find unsung estates that sit on great terroir … to celebrate the very real achievements of the most iconic names of Bordeaux. I think we need to start assessing Bordeaux in the way that we more typically do for other fine wine regions such as Burgundy, Barolo, the northern Rhone - by its soils, and by how these individual soils react to different growing conditions year on year.” Inside Bordeaux — Jane Anson — The New World I “Replanted in 1969 after the original vineyard was dug up in the low years of the ‘20s following multiple depressions and Phylloxera, Yeringberg remains in the hands of the de Pury family having been established 4 generations prior to the present custodians (Sandra & David) in 1862. The vines are fully mature, the approach to the vineyard is respectful, and the blend is classic. This release is the very model of understated YV elegance. Lunch Claret for the thinking drinker.” — David Yeringberg 2023 Yarra Valley 'Yeringberg' (Shelf Price: $129.00) Offer: $109.00 “A blend of 61/13/12/8/6% Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot/Cabernet Franc/Malbec/Petit Verdot from vines planted at this historic site from 1969–2000. A bright crimson purple. A wonderfully complex and perfumed bouquet redolent of blackcurrants and wild blackberry together with new pencil box shavings, sweet spice and crushed violets. Medium bodied, in the best sense of the term, with the fruit, oak and seamless tannins coming together as one. It may not be the most long-lived Yeringberg ever, but it will provide an enormous amount of enjoyment over the next 10–15 years.” 97pts — Phillip Rich, James Halliday’s Wine Companion Order here (Link) — The Old World The Left Bank - Saint-Julien “Saint-Julien’s stylistic signature is one of the most balanced of all the Medoc commune appellations, with bags of character and finesse. This [Chateau Gloria] has got to be the best-value big name in St-Julien, delivering rich fruit structure and great tension with losing the St-Julien sense of balance and finesse … Gloria has a great story for such a traditional appellation, having been pieced together from … plots [bought] exclusively from 1855-classifed estates.” Inside Bordeaux — Jane Anson II Chateau Gloria 2015 Saint-Julien (Shelf Price: $248.00) Offer: $212.00 “This style of vintage really suits Gloria, with its cheerful, exuberant character, silky tannins and clear power. You'll find plenty of precision and bite through the blueberry and cassis fruits, excellent quality, bright, bristling and full of life. The signature of St Julien comes through, and this is softly spoken but with quiet confidence, layering on slate and gunsmoke edges on the finish.” 94pts — Jane Anson, Decanter Magazine & “The 2015 Gloria is another Saint-Julien that has improved over the last 12 months. It has a bolder and more exuberant bouquet than some of its peers, featuring lush blackberry and blueberry fruit and revealing a touch of iodine and crushed violet with aeration. The medium-bodied palate displays supple tannin, a fine bead of acidity and very pure fruit intensity (black cherries, bilberry and boysenberry), although it clams shut toward the finish. Slightly more modern in style than its peers, this should still age with style.” 93pts — Neal Martin, vinous.com Order here (Link) — The Right Bank - Pomerol “Deeply coloured, powerful wines with silky tannins and endlessly seductive aromatics … if Bordeaux has a centre of hedonism, it has to be Pomerol. This is Merlot territory, but supercharged so that it ages like the vert best Cabernet Sauvignon. Expect black cherry notes, truffles and even the odd touch of violet in the wines - along with an ability to sit back, relax, and smile. One of the iconic names of the appellation … A lot of the modern history of Pomerol was born in these [Chateau Le Bon Pasteur’s] cellars, giving this a special footnote for those of us interested in the stories behind our bottles.” Inside Bordeaux — Jane Anson III Chateau Le Bon Pasteur 2019 Pomerol (Shelf Price: $245.00) Offer: $210.00 “From the talented Michel Rolland, the 2019 Château Le Bon Pasteur shines for its richness as well as its elegance. Ripe black cherries, currants, tobacco leaf, chocolate, and floral notes all define the bouquet, and it has the vintage’s fresher, pure, vibrant style in both its aromas and flavors. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, it has fabulous tannins, a seamless, layered mouthfeel, no hard edges, and a great finish. It's already hard to resist yet has another 20-25 years of prime drinking ahead of it.” 95pts — Jeb Dunnuck, jebdunnuck.com & “The 2019 Le Bon Pasteur retains the precision and focus that I found in the barrel sample, offering aromas of blackberry and raspberry fruit and touches of rose petal and espresso. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins, plenty of lightly spiced red fruit and a little dried blood toward the finish, which retains wonderful composure. This is a superb Le Bon Pasteur, the best I have encountered in recent years.” 94pts — Neal Martin, vinous.com Order here (Link) — The new Le Tuffeau 2026 … As mentioned above Le Tuffeau is open for 2026.
